Devil's Bargain
Life in space can make your character short-tempered, shortsighted, and callous. Crews often crash through peaceful and remote settlements like a storm, causing as much trouble as they solve.
One of the clearest examples of this is the Devil's Bargain. When a crewmate is about to make a roll, the GM or a fellow player can offer them +1d or 1 Tension cleared in exchange for a complication. For example:
- The action causes unintended harm or collateral damage
- Barter or an item is sacrificed
- A friendly NPC is betrayed or a hostile NPC is enraged
- A worrisome clock is started or ticked
- The crewmate suffers some Harm
- The ship suffers some Wear
