4. Ship Modules and Fittings
Building a Modular Ship
Modules
Modules are kind of like claims, and require a Job (or similar) to obtain new ones. They have no narrative or mechanical benefits of their own, but the crew may choose one fitting to install in a new module
Module Limit - How many of a module can be fitted onto a ship
Fitting Capacity - How many fittings a single module can contain
Core Load - How many Core Load points fitting a module incurs
Fittings
Fittings are 'upgrades' to modules which provide narrative or mechanical benefits, such as bonuses to rolls or new capabilities. Maybe bought with Barter, or acquire an asset??
Rarity - How difficult the fitting is to acquire
Fitting Limit - How many of a fitting can be fitted onto a ship
Benefits for modules & fittings:
- 2 free Load of a particular type
+ +1 Tension or Trauma box (3x cost)
- Extra capabilities (exoplane, drones, ship/planet scanners, prox/lock sensors, onboard workshop)
+ Raise skill ceiling to 4 (4x cost!)
+ Raise quality of specific item type (Data, Gear, Supplies, Tools, or Weapons)
- Increased Barter storage
+ Each downtime gain Barter equal to CCd6 minus Wear
- +1d to engagement rolls for specific job type
+ -2 Wear per job
- +2 Barter per job meeting specific criteria (e.g. client type)
- +1d to specific downtime roll (repairing wear, healing, acquire asset)
- +1 to a skill in a specific category (each player chooses skill)
- +1d to specific rolls (2 skills, resistance with specific criteria)
Available Modules
Cargo Rack
Limit 2 | Capacity 2
A radial rack for cargo pods provides extra space for transporting goods and supplies.
Commodity Cargo Pods
Rarity 1 | Limit 2
Standard cargo pods for storing and transporting commonly-traded goods.
Each downtime, roll dice equal to the ship's core class, you earn barter equal to the highest result, minus the current wear.
Secure Cargo Pods
Rarity 1 | Limit 2
Cargo pods fitted with extra security and anti-tamper systems for storing valuable goods. Also suitable for securely transporting prisoners.
Increase the barter capacity of the ship by 8.
Crew Habitation
Limit 1 | Capacity 1
A module offering the lap of luxury compared to the cramped and spartan conditions of most ship core units. Features 6 individual crew rooms, a fully-fitted galley and mess, and a rec room for relaxation and socialisation between work shifts.
Onboard Entertainment Archive
Rarity 3 | Limit 1
A massive data archive of music, books, videos, and games obtained by various means for the crew to freely share and enjoy.
All spacers gain +1 tension box.
SynTherapy Expert System
Rarity 3 | Limit 1
A specially-trained expert system certified in a wide range of first-line therapy techniques. Inferior to a professional therapist, but much easier to access aboard a ship.
All spacers gain +1 trauma* box.
Data Core
Limit 2 | Capacity 2
AI Direct Interface
Rarity 1 | Limit 1
A hardened support and interface apparatus for AI cores. Protects the cores from direct tampering or damage to the ship, while allowing an AI to control the ship as if it were their own body.
Archive Crawler
Rarity 1 | Limit 1
A suite of secure drives and specialised processing cores hosting programs that constantly crawl available data archives for potentially useful information.
Gain +1d to Study and Track rolls on the ship
Drone Bay
Limit 1 | Capacity 2
A rack of launchers, retrieval arms, and repair bays for operating and maintaining a set of orbital drones.
Exoplane Dock
Limit 1 | Capacity 1
A specialised support gantry allows the ship to safely carry a stowed exoplane during acceleration, and facilitates easy passage between the ship and exoplane via a dedicated docking port.
Exoplane
Rarity 1 | Limit 1
This basic transorbital shuttle is able to ferry a crew and a respectable amount of passengers or cargo between planetary surfaces and orbit, as well as function as an atmospheric aircraft on suitable worlds.
Maintenance Bay
Limit 1 | Capacity 2
Ship Self-Diagnostics
Rarity 1 | Limit 1
Aftermarket sensors installed throughout the ship feed into a central monitoring unit fitted with a diagnostic expert system, rapidly alerting the crew of anomalies and necessary maintenance.
+1d to the Maintain the Ship downtime action.
Reinforced Spares
Rarity 1 | Limit 1
Investment in high-quality, reinforced spares for high-stress components helps to extend maintenance cycles and reduce the frequency of emergency repairs.
Reduce wear after jobs by 2.
Prep Room
Limit 2 | Capacity 2
Specialist Equipment
Rarity 1 | Limit 3
While good tools cannot salvage shoddy workmanship, maintaining a stock of high-quality tools and materials aboard the ship allows a well-trained crew to go above and beyond.
+1 quality to a specific item type (Data, Gear, Supplies, Tools, or Weapons)
Only 1 fitting per item type
Sensor Suite
Limit 1 | Capacity 3
Proximity Early-Warning System
Rarity 1 | Limit 1
Improve position when defending the ship?
VR Training Suite
Limit 1 | Capacity 2
Adversarial Expert System
Rarity 4 | Limit 1
Originally designed for ESF advanced training, this specialised expert system is able to attune to and counter the user's skillset, driving the user the shore up their weaknesses and develop techniques for challenges yet to be encountered.
Gain the ability to raise skills to level 4.
Workshop
Limit 1 | Capacity 2
